Chief Data Officer, Head of Division, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Germany
Mark Azzam is the Chief Data Officer and Division Head for Environmental Information, CDO and AI at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection in Bonn.
Before joining the Federal Ministry, he worked at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as a Senior Executive. As the Executive Board Representative - Digitalization he was responsible for the cross-sectional research division and R&D initiative for digital technologies between 2018 and early 2022. He joined DLR in 2017 and headed DLR's Think Tank until 2021. In this time, he drove the development and implementation of AI-based strategic management tools, among other things.
Mark Azzam worked as a Subject Matter Expert on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs for IABG in the Project Management Agency for Aeronautics Research from 2013 to 2017 and as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Laboratory for Aviation and Environment at MIT from 2012 to 2013.
Dr. Azzam earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, studying at RWTH Aachen University, TU Darmstadt and MIT.
