Ian Knowles

During a varied career spanning two decades in statistics and analysis, Ian has worked in a number of government departments and gone from leading teams with paper publications and excel based calculations using set piece large surveys to reproducible analytical pipelines through open source coding solutions and to dealing with the art of the possible as we consider how to make use of huge growth in smart devices and sensor data.

He is now Head of Data and Statistics in the Department for Transport. He is driving the development of a data strategy for the transport sector in order to find solutions which enable data to be put to ever better use in future to improve transport and societal outcomes.
