André Loranger

André Loranger is currently the Assistant Chief Statistician for Strategic Data Management, Methods and Analysis.  He is also Statistics Canada’s Chief Data Officer responsible for the overall stewardship of the organization’s information data holdings.  

André, an economist with an M.A. (Economics) degree from the University of Ottawa, began his career in the public service atStatistics Canada in 1997where he spent most of his career compiling estimates of GDP.Prior to his current position, André was the Director of ProducerPrices Division from 2008 to 2012 and the Director General of the Macroeconomic Statistics Branch from 2012to June 2013.More recently, he was the Assistant Chief Statistician for Economic Statistics responsible for the key economic indicators (CPI, GDP, etc.) produced by Statistics Canada.

In recent years, André has been involved in international projects related to economic statistics.  He was a member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounting, the United Nations Expert Group on International Trade and Economic Globalization Statistics, the United Nations Expert Group on the Future of Economic Statistics and a number of international statistical working groups.  André is currently a member of the United Nations Global Working Group on Big Data.

André Loranger est présentement le statisticien en chef adjoint responsable du secteur de la Gestion stratégique des données, Méthodes et Analyse à Statistique Canada.  Il est également le dirigeant principal des données de Statistique Canada, responsable de l’intendance de la banque de données de l'organisation.  

André, un économiste titulaire d'une maîtrise en économie de l'Université d'Ottawa a débuté sa carrière dans la fonction publique à Statistique Canada en 1997, où il a passé la majeure partie de sa carrière à compiler des estimations du PIB.  Avant d'occuper son poste actuel, André a été directeur de la division des prix à la production de 2008 à 2012 et directeur général de la direction des statistiques macroéconomiques de 2012 à juin 2013.  Plus récemment, il a été le statisticien en chef adjoint pour les statistiques économiques, responsable des principaux indicateurs économiques (IPC, PIB, etc.) produits par Statistique Canada.

Au cours des dernières années, André a participé à des projets internationaux concernant les statistiques économiques. Il a été membre du Comité d'experts des Nations Unies sur la comptabilité économique et environnementale, du Groupe d'experts des Nations Unies sur les statistiques du commerce international et de la mondialisation, du Groupe d’expert des Nations Unies sur le future des statistiques économiques et plusieurs groupes de travail internationaux sur la statistique. André est présentement membre du groupe de travail mondial des Nations Unies sur les mégadonnées.
